A Brief History
On May 23, 1895, three men and fifteen women met at Raynor's Hall to establish the First Baptist Church of Freeport. Soon after, the Church changed its meeting place to Smith and McLean's Hall on Merrick Road. On April 4, 1904, the Church, with twenty-five members, broke ground for its first building, a chapel on Grove Street, which was ready for services on October 9. By 1927 there were nearly 150 members preparing to erect the present structure, which was ready for services in the sanctuary on July 8, 1928. In 1955 the Christian education building was added to the south of the main church.
The buildings, while reflecting the church's growth, are only a small part of the story. They represent the love and faithfulness of generations dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel of Christ and advancing the work of God. you are part of that history, as we rejoice together, giving praise to Go, and serve together in the great work of Jesus Christ.
In May of 2015 on the anniversary of our 120th year, the congregation decided to change the name of our church to Cornerstone Church.

As of today, in 2022, we continue to present ourselves as a Bible-Based Christian Church.
Our Mission Statement reads:
We exist to fulfill two main purposes: to present the message of Jesus in a clear and compelling way and to help those who accept that message grow in their relationship with God, becoming committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our vision is to see people come together to worship Jesus with enthusiasm and passion; to see Freeport and the surrounding communities transformed by the power of the Lord, and to see the love of God spread to the ends of the earth.
